A fair and balanced Friday...
I knew there was something different about this day the moment the first waft of air blew in from the window this morning and caressed my nose. No, it wasn't the acrid smell of the paper mill up the river in Camus. Though, the smell did seem to be blowing down this way into Portland the past few days. And no, it had nothing to do with the blackout in NYC and a few half dozen other eastern cities too insignificant for the cable news channels to bother talking much about. Nor does it have anything at all to do with the knowledge, nay the anticipation, that perhaps it really is true that George W. Bush's popularity is finally, like the underwear I'm wearing right now, on the skids. Rather, it suddenly occured to me-- this is fair and balanced Friday the 15th, 2003. A date which will surely go down in history. Or not.
A day we celebrate the innate fair and balanced state of the world, if not humanity and the universe. As surely as every coin has two sides and for every jot there is a tittle, there is a worm somewhere turning. And that worm, my friends, is Bill O'Reilly. And Fox News is the dung upon which he feeds.
A fair and balanced good Friday to you all!
